Good "Easy to Remember" New Domain Names are now VERY Hard to Find!

Domain Names are the Real Estate "Land" of the Internet -- and "they aren't making any more of it." Anyone who has looked for a new good "Easily Remembered" and descriptive . COM Domain Name for a new Web Site Online Business knows that domains are getting increasingly very hard to find. The huge growth in New Web Sites on all topics has already taken most of the premium "Good" short Domain Names relating to most topics.

A long and harder to remember .COM  KeyWord-based domain for a Web Site may be OK for the Internet Search Engines, but it often is not a good choice for your "Human" Visitors and any "Word of Mouth," Print, or other promotions you want to do.

Sometimes a good compromise is to build the actual Site with the longer and hard to remember, but search engine "friendly" name, and ALSO own 2 or 3 "easy-to-remember-and-type-out" Domain Names that your "Human" visitors can remember for general print or TV Advertising and word-of-mouth campaigns for your Web Site Business. These Easy to Remember Domain Names can be purchased and "Parked" with unnoticeable instantaneous "Forwarding" to your Site so that you get the best of both worlds so to speak.

My two US Vacation Guide Web Site Examples with Lo-oo-ong names

Two examples that I have learned much from on this are two of my US Vacation Guide Web Sites -- Memorable-Beach-Vacations.com and Mountain-Fall-Foliage-Vacations.com . Both names were selected as good picks for Internet Search Engines by a comprehensive research selection process using special software (See more on this at Top 1% Traffic - Site "Creation Story" below). Both "long Names" are a part of the factors helping both Sites to have a Top 1% Traffic Ranking within less than 6 months after they were started.

I of course also own the "non-dashed" versions of both Domain Names which Forward to the Sites, but even without dashes, both names are a pain to remember and type into a browser address box for "Human Visitors." Thus neither -- with or without dashes-- name is a good choice to use in ANY type of print, TV, or voice "word of mouth" advertising -- or ANY situation where you want an easy-to-remember or write down name that the Individual can remember and type in later to come to your Web Site. (-- and also for some people who don't even like to use "Bookmarks")

The Perfect Solution to the Long "Hard for Humans to Remember" Site Name Problem


My personal solution to this problem was to purchase some short, easy to remember, and very descriptive additional Domain names, which I then "Parked" and set up to "Forward" to my two "Long Name" Web Sites. (Setting up parking and forwarding is very easy with most Domain Registrars - check before you purchase or transfer.)


Note also that you do NOT normally have to pay Web Site Hosting Fees for "Parked" Domains -- just be sure your Domain "Parking" Registrar choice offers free Forwarding. (GoDaddy is my favorite choice for "cheap" new or transfer domains that does - I have several Domains "parked" with "forwarding" there and it works very well.)

My first easy to remember "short Name" new Domain purchase was  gousbeaches.com  which was/is "Parked" and set to instantly "Forward" to the home page of my initial Memorable-Beach-Vacations.com  Site. "Hover" your cursor over link above to see where it is directed, and then try it for yourself (opens new window - remember to come back, please!) The forward to the  Memorable Beach Vacations  Site happens so fast you are at the "Long Name" home page almost instantly.

The home page there has text about "US Beaches" in the heading so there is no question that the visitor ended up at a Site relating to the "gousbeaches" which they typed in. (and No, we definately don't advocate "masking" the forwarding but we won't debate that Search Engine Optomization issue here - just know that most internet "technical" guru's recommend that you do NOT select the masking option when you set up your forwarding.)

The "Short Name"  foliagevacations.com  was also purchased to direct "Human Visitors" from Ads or word of mouth to my newest Site -- Mountain-Fall-Foliage-Vacations.com -- a real pain to remember and type in but again picked because the name is "friendly" to the Internet Search Engines which would be "finding" it.

Dilemma for easy short Name to get to two sites!

Then almost immediately came up with a challenge -- how to help "Humans" NOT using Search Engines easily remember and find BOTH Vacation Sites from Print or Verbal "ads" -- and watermarks on pictures. This caused the fairly recent purcase of the  gousvacations.com  Domain Name. (I was VERY lucky it was still available! - That was when also decided to purchase several of the "Go___Vacations or Travel Domain Names offered below.)

The easy to remember  GoUSVacations.com  Domain Name now forwards to a new US Vacations "Combination" page which has links to and page listings for two of our US Vacation Web Sites.  GoUSVacations.com  is also used to "Water Mark" the preview Images of some High Resolution Popular Site Pictures that are now offered for sale by a click-thru from either US Vacation Site's Picture / Screensaver pages. We now use  GoUSVacations.com  in any type of print or word of mouth advertising Vs the two "Long" Site names and and have been very pleased with the results.

BOTTOM LINE:

-- There is a definate Commercial "Use" for relatively short, descriptive, and EASY TO REMEMBER Domain Names -- whether to be used as the main Domain Name for a new Web Site, or to be used in conjunction with other harder to remember long Domain Names selected to be more "indexable" to the Internet Search Engines.

Some SEO (Search Engine Optomization) writings now say that having a long and "keyword rich" Site Domain Name to be "friendly" to the Search Engines is not that important -- especially as your site grows and has many OTHER pages than your home page with keywords to help you get "found" by the Search Engines. Your home page is generally not a high ranking keyword search page anyway, usually the other more "focused" pages in your site are. I can testify to the fact that the site domain name keywords on my two Sites are NOT the cause of most of the "hits" on the home page of either Site, but still believe that the key word choices in the Site Domain name are VERY important. (See "Tools I discovered to build two Top 1% Traffic Sites" below.)

There are now over two million Domain Names that have been purchased on the speculation that they will be needed by some one in the future in developing a new Web Site or trying to improve an existing one. I decided to purchase several easy-to-remember "short" Vacation and Travel Domain Names for this, as well as some Electronic, Digital, Camera, Movie, and a few other "Merchandise" and "Oldie" .COM names which are below. Since dot-COM is still by far the most popular and commercially recognizible extension, all except three of our Domain Names below are .COM as you can see on our Domain Names Aftermarket Listings below..

Some of these Domain Names are now also listed on the large - "Get the name you want at Afternic!" Site -- currently the largest and most popular Domain Name Reseller. They are based in the US, and have a HUGE high traffic searchable Domain Name Database Site with many categories, and use a Sales Escrow process to help keep all sales "honest" for both Buyers and Sellers. Their Transaction and Escrow Fees are paid by the Seller. I researched several Aftermarket Domain Name Resale Sites before listing some of my Domains, and concluded Afternic was the best high traffic option now available for listing domain names aftermarket resales -- for both Buyer and Seller.

Tip - Search at Afternic specifically for Domain Names you are interested in since "Browsing" their database is Very time consuming and you can easily miss what you are looking for since there are SO MANY Listings! Their Database search does not allow for "Word1" + "Word2" searches -- everything entered in their search box is treated like it is in quotes.
